Job Title: Usher, Astor Place Theatre

Position Type: Part-time

Compensation: $20/hour, with a 4-hour minimum per show 

Reports to: House Manager and Assistant House Manager

About the Astor Place Theatre

The Astor Place Theatre is a historic Off-Broadway venue in the heart of Greenwich Village. No Guarantees Productions, through NG Astor LLC, is excited to be building a dedicated team to transform the Astor Place Theatre into a dynamic cultural hub for a variety of new and innovative theatrical productions. We are revitalizing the theatre to host a new generation of productions while honoring the venue’s legacy, and looking for professionals to help us create a welcoming and memorable experience for our guests, artists, and staff.

Position Overview

The Ushers are the public face of the Astor Place Theatre and a vital part of our front-of-house team. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all guests, ensuring their safety and comfort, and contributing to the smooth operation of each performance. Ushers are key to creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere from the moment a guest enters the theatre.

Key Responsibilities

​

  • Guest Services:

    • Greet all guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.

    • Efficiently and accurately guide guests to their designated seats.

    • Be knowledgeable about the theatre layout, including the location of restrooms, concessions, and fire exits, to assist guests with inquiries.

    • Enforce theatre policies, such as no-photos or no-outside-food policies, in a professional manner.

    • Hand out programs, as requested.

    • Assist with cleaning in the auditorium and restrooms in between shows on two-show days.

    • Assist guests with disabilities as needed, including those who require mobility assistance or other accommodations.

  • Safety and Operations:

    • Conduct pre-show and post-show checks of assigned sections, ensuring that the areas are clean and free of potential hazards.

    • Remain in an assigned station during the performance to be available for guest assistance and monitor for any safety issues.

    • Be prepared to assist in the event of a medical or security situation, following established emergency procedures.

    • Communicate effectively with the House Manager and Assistant House Manager regarding any guest or operational issues.

  • Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Work closely with other ushers, the Assistant House Manager, and the House Manager to ensure a coordinated and efficient front-of-house operation.

    • Attend and engage in pre-show meetings to stay informed about show-specific details and responsibilities.

  • Other Responsibilities:

    • Position will require work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Position will require the individual to stand for extended periods, walk up and down stairs, bend down, and carry equipment and/or supplies to assist with theatre cleaning as needed.

    • Additional duties as needed or directed.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a customer service role is highly preferred.

  • An outgoing and professional attitude.

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

  • A team player with a strong work ethic.
