About the Astor Place Theatre
The Astor Place Theatre is a historic Off-Broadway venue in the heart of Greenwich Village. No Guarantees Productions, through NG Astor LLC, is excited to be building a dedicated team to transform the Astor Place Theatre into a dynamic cultural hub for a variety of new and innovative theatrical productions. We are revitalizing the theatre to host a new generation of productions while honoring the venue’s legacy, and looking for professionals to help us create a welcoming and memorable experience for our guests, artists, and staff.

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and professional House Manager to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for our guests, artists, and staff. The House Manager is a key member of the Astor Place Theatre staff, responsible for overseeing all front-of-house operations during performance times. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for our guests, performers, and staff. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills and a passion for the live theatre experience.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Services:​
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for all guests, addressing questions, concerns, and special needs and/or requests with professionalism and courtesy.

Work closely with the Box Office to ensure a positive guest experience for box office sales and ticket distribution.

Manage and resolve any seating issues or guest-related conflicts promptly and tactfully.

Ensure the lobby and restrooms are clean, well-stocked, and ready for guest arrival.

Ensure that lines for entry, box office pick-up, concessions, merchandise, and restrooms are efficient and that staff managing these lines are doing so in a professional manner.

Lead and manage the Assistant House Manager/Ticket-taker and Usher staff, providing clear instructions and support to ensure a positive guest experience.

Work with security personnel to ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming entry through metal detectors.

Ensure that guests with disabilities receive assistance as needed.

Theatre Operations:
-
Open and close the theatre for each performance, ensuring all safety and operational protocols are followed.

Act as the liaison between the front-of-house team and the backstage crew and stage management.

Coordinate with the concessions, merchandise, and infrared vendors to ensure a smooth operation.

Work with Assistant House Manager to manage ticket scanners, walkie talkies, and other front-of-house communication equipment.

Work with front-of-house staff between shows on two-show days for auditorium and restroom cleaning.

Manage the house count and prepare performance reports for the Theatre Manager.

Review and sign box office statements and applicable back-up with Box Office, immediately following the start of each performance.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness:

Ensure all emergency procedures are understood and followed by the entire front-of-house staff.

Act as the primary point of contact for any medical emergencies or security incidents, implementing established protocols as needed.

Conduct pre-show safety checks of the theatre, including checking fire exits, emergency lighting, and clear pathways.

Complete and file incident reports for any accidents or emergencies.

Staff Management:

Recruit, train, and schedule a team of ushers and ticket-takers.

Provide ongoing feedback and support to ushers and ticket-takers to ensure high standards of performance and professionalism.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment for the front-of-house team.

Other Responsibilities:
-
Position will require work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position will require the individual to stand for extended periods, walk up and down stairs, bend down, and carry equipment and/or supplies to assist with cleaning as needed.

Additional duties as needed or directed.

Qualifications
-
Proven experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in a theatre, event, or hospitality environment.

Strong leadership and team management skills.
-
Exceptional communication skills.
-
Demonstrated experience handling high-pressure situations calmly and effectively.

Knowledge of standard theatre operations, ticketing systems/equipment, and emergency procedures is a plus.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Must be comfortable being the last person in the theatre to lock up at night.

Successful applicant must have, or will need to obtain FDNY certificates of fitness, including F-03 (Indoor Place of Assembly), F-07 (Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor), and S-95 (Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems) certificates as a condition of employment, with certificate fees to be covered.
