ASSISTANT HOUSE MANAGER/TICKET-TAKER

Job Title: Assistant House Manager/Ticket-Taker, Astor Place Theatre

Position Type: Part-time

Compensation: $25/hour, with a 4-hour minimum per show

The Astor Place Theatre is a historic Off-Broadway venue in the heart of Greenwich Village. No Guarantees Productions, through NG Astor LLC, is excited to be building a dedicated team to transform the Astor Place Theatre into a dynamic cultural hub for a variety of new and innovative theatrical productions. We are revitalizing the theatre to host a new generation of productions while honoring the venue’s legacy, and looking for professionals to help us create a welcoming and memorable experience for our guests, artists, and staff.

Position Overview

The Assistant House Manager/Ticket-Taker is a key support position for the House Manager, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all guests. The role involves acting as a lead usher and ticket-taker during guest entry and assisting the House Manager with various front-of-house responsibilities, among other responsibilities. This is a hands-on position that requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position will also serve as a key point of contact for the House Manager and other staff members during each performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guest Services:

    • Serve as the lead ticket-taker during guest arrival, accurately scanning tickets and directing guests to the correct entrances and aisles.

    • Work closely with the House Manager and Box Office to help resolve seating issues and ensure a smooth ticketing/entrance process.

    • Address guest questions and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.

    • Assist with ensuring the lobby and restrooms are clean, well-stocked, and ready for guest arrival.

    • Support the House Manager in ensuring lines for entry, concessions, and restrooms are managed efficiently.

    • Ensure guests with disabilities receive assistance as needed.

  • Operational Support:

    • Provide assistance to the House Manager as needed, including but not limited to ensuring coverage for them during breaks or brief absences.

    • Help manage the ticket scanners, walkie-talkies and other front-of-house communication equipment.

    • Assist House Manager with pre-show safety checks, including checking fire exits and ensuring clear pathways.

    • Serve as a liaison between the House Manager and the usher staff.

    • Provide support to the House Manager, as needed, in coordinating with concessions and merchandise vendors.

    • Work with front-of-house staff between shows on two-show days for auditorium and restroom cleaning.

    • Help oversee the closing of the house after each performance, as needed.

  • Safety and Emergency Preparedness:

    • Understand and be prepared to implement all emergency procedures, including acting as a point of contact for any incidents in the absence of the House Manager.

    • Report any safety issues or incidents to the House Manager immediately.

  • Other Responsibilities:

    • Position will require work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Position will require the individual to stand for extended periods, walk up and down stairs, bend down, and carry equipment and/or supplies to assist with theatre cleaning as needed.

    • Additional duties as needed or directed.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role, preferably in a theatre, event, or hospitality environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.

  • Basic knowledge of theatre operations and ticketing equipment is a plus.

  • A team player with a strong work ethic.

  • Must be comfortable being the last person in the theatre to lock up at night.

  • Successful applicant must have, or will need to obtain FDNY certificates of fitness, including F-03 (Indoor Place of Assembly), F-07 (Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor), and S-95 (Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems) certificates as a condition of employment, with certificate fees to be covered.
